Border Bound
Day 39: Pacific Beach to Tijuana Border
It just wouldn't be right if I didn't make it all the way down to Mexico. It's more of a "just to say I did it" sort of thing because it's such a short ride and technically i'm already back home. But nonetheless, I actually do want to say I did it! It's been a long, difficult road (literally) to get here and I'm not done until I touch that border. It rained yesterday, so I decided to wait it out for some better weather today. I met up with my buddy Landon in PB and we set off this morning towards the border. I realized I've actually never been on a "ride" in San Diego and if you've been following from the beginning you already know the reason for that is because I started this adventure with really no experience at all.
It was a cloudy day with a little wind, but nice enough. When we made it into downtown San Diego, we hopped on a ferry to Coronado so that we could take Silver Strand for most of the way. A lot of people were out biking and walking and I think there was some sort of running event today as well. Riding into the wind actually made it a little bit of a workout, otherwise we would've cruised through this part pretty quickly. We rode through Imperial Beach and then navigated our way until we finally hit the Mexican Border! If I didn't grow up here it would've been much less anticlimactic, but it still felt really awesome to official finish this thing up. It's difficult to completely wrap my head around the feat I just accomplished. It feels like forever ago that I was fumbling with my gear in Canada and thinking about what I just got myself into. And now i'm here at the bottom of California, having traveled almost 2,000 miles on two wheels.
After taking a picture, Landon and I jumped on the trolley and headed back up. We had a sushi burrito for lunch (yeah, you heard that right) and then just chilled for the rest of the day. Once I settle in and have a chance to reflect a little, i'm going to write up a final post. But as for riding my bike from Canada to Mexico...Done did that.
